OBJECTIVE:
To learn about the people and events involved in the establishment of the Plymouth Colony.
TIME:
1 class period
In this exciting activity, the class is divided into five teams that take turns answering twenty questions about the Pilgrims.
Play begins with a person from Team 1 trying to answer the first question. If their answer is correct, Team 1 scores 50 points. If not, Team 2 can answer and score 40 points if correct. Each time a wrong answer is given, the next team in order can answer with the point value reduced by 10.
Teams take turns going first and t
he order to be followed is given before each question.
A new question is always worth 50 points.
Following the game, class members complete a review exercise by identifying key words, names, and terms being described in a series of statements about the Pilgrims. Correct answers are worth 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 points. A perfect score is 100. Students can use information on the game sheets to help them find the answers.
CONTEST OPTION
The review section can also be presented as a contest as students, working individually or in pairs, compete to answer the questions within a set time limit without looking back at the preceding pages for answers.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress.
The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment.
